Saleisha Wins America's Next Top Model!
Ok everyone, I know this is another ANTM post, but you don't think I couldn't let the finale happen without an update, do you?! Saleisha is Cycle 9's Top Model winner, and the recipient of a fantastic modeling contract, Seventeen Magazine cover and spread, and the title of Cover Girl! I'm very excited for her. There's some buzz going around by upset fans of the other models claiming it was unfair because Saleisha attended Tyra's T-Zone camp and modeled on her talk show before coming on ANTM. The cries of outrage claim favoritism, that it's unfair and she shouldn't have been allowed on the show. What do you think of this? I'm kind of on the fence. On one hand, I can see how people would see that she had a bit of an advantage, having been around Tyra prior to the show. I'm sure if I were a contestant I'd be gasping with the rest of them, feeling a bit jealous at my inherent disadvantage compared to her. But on the other hand, a model is a model is a model. No matter how you slice it, Saleisha has the talent to embody not only the modeling talent of a Cover Girl, but the personality and poise. Some argue that she's not 'high fashion' enough, but if you look at a Cover Girl commercial...that's exactly what it is - commercial! I think Saleisha definitely stepped up her game toward the end and did her best to compete against the more fierce looks of fellow models Jenah and Lisa (I think she went home too soon). And with the haircut that they gave her during the makeover, I think that alone deserves some praise to work it out amidst that. It was supposed to be 'edgy' but I'm not sure that's what it accomplished. Regardless of hair, Saleisha definitely embodies the qualities of 'true beauty', inside and out. Well,...now another cycle of Top Model has come and gone. What will I do on my Wednesday nights now?! I guess it's time to look forward to another cycle in the Spring, and find another show to latch onto until then. I think it might end up being American Idol, though I'm not as into that as I once was because it's gotten a bit stale. That and they didn't pick me when I auditioned! But I'm not bitter, I swear... Watch for some more ANTM updates in the Spring. For now, check out our jeans of the week for a pick me up during the post-Top-Model blues. (Photo Courtesy of cwtv.com)
Julie: Please Help My Curvy and Petite Girlfriend
A reader recently left me a comment asking about what jeans would flatter his petite and curvaceous girlfriend. My best advice for your girlfriend after she creates a profile would be to stick with a darker wash jean, and a fabric that has at least 2-3% stretch. The darker wash creates a slimmer silhouette, and the stretch helps for a curvaceous figure and athletic thighs, for utmost comfort. A couple of brands that incorporate stretch and work well with a curvy figure are Pine IV and WORN.Inseam length is the least of our fit issues, because we can always provide the original hem service. There is nothing better than a fabulous pair of shoes to pair up with your new jeans to help boost your height a bit, or the jeans are just a good excuse to get a new pair of shoes!Julie
2008 Fashion Predictions
The blogosphere is a flurry of New Year's news - from resolutions to predictions for politics, fashion and celebrity gossip, you name it! Everyone's looking toward 2008 with their own personal resolutions as well as some ideas for what the future will bring. At TrueJeans, we thought it'd be fun to bring you some of the buzz for the next year in fashion. Will wide leg jeans sweep our closets or will skinny jeans reign supreme? Will boots over jeans suddenly be a mistake? And will we ever see the end of Crocs? Only time will tell, but it's fun to play fortune teller and see what happens! Men's Denim The menswear gurus over at styleforum are tossing in their predictions for Spring denim trends. Senior member 'DGP' predicts more emphasis on waxed or coated denims. Other posters respond with praise for the classic boot-cut and straight leg, claiming these staples will never go out of style. Should You Ditch your Skinny Jeans and Leggings? Not yet, according to Stevie Wilson of la-story.com. She's found a great article from Fushion Magazine that has taken both the New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks into consideration to come up with some predictions to suit both sides of the country. Leggings and skinny jeans paired with high heels were spotted on the runway, so don't toss 'em out just yet! Of course, if you shy away from the skinny jean/legging silhouette, never fear. With more wide leg jeans hitting the market now, there is a fashion forward option for every body type.Aim High and Go for the Gold Stevie Wilson and Fushion Magazine also tells us that the runways are showcasing more and more high-waisted skirts, high heels, and high shine. Shimmery leggings, rich and luxurious goldtone fabrics and shoes, gold accessories, anything with shimmer and shine (without looking tacky, of course...it's a delicate balance) is in for 2008 on the runways. The Budget Fashionista affirms the high-waist trend as well, noting that knee-length pencil skirts, sequins, silks and metallics will all be more popular this year. Lose a Half an Inch On your tie, that is! TheLedger.com's Samantha Critchell gives us a heads-up for the fashion-conscious men out there: "Buy a skinnier tie". In a section of the fashion industry that moves at a slower, less drastic pace, menswear trends move in cycles approximately every 5 years, according to Critchell. It seems only natural, then, that such a seemingly small alteration would weigh just as heavily in menswear as, say, changing from stilettos to flats for women's trends. As trends lean more and more toward the dressy and put the grunge look behind us, men are taking the hint from stars like Justin Timberlake and Kanye West who wear suits as casual wear. Subtle changes like a fitted jacket, casual shoe or a more slender lapel turn the would-be corporate suit into fashionable street wear. The Bottom Line: It's Time to Grow Up Style Dash helps put all of these trends into perspective by summing it up for us with an article they found in Fortune Magazine (an unlikely spot for fashion advice, we know!). The trends we're seeing unravel for 2008 all seem to have one thing in common - sophistication. Of course there are playful accents and more casual accessories or garments if you choose, but a streamlined, classy look is something that will never go out of style. It just happens to be particularly in right now! Fortune suggests making use of a scarf as your next major accessory, high fashion sneakers (I'm a little biased to this one. I love a cute pair of colorful sneakers), sheer fabrics, and even industrial fabrics. These fabrics are making their appearance with some more high end designers (Established 1887 is offering a tee shirt with silver anti-microbial chips embedded in it to repel stains and odors...a shirt that cleans itself?) Whatever you choose to wear this season, what's most important is that you feel good about yourself and love what you're wearing. If you're just not feeling the high-waisted pencil skirt, don't wear it! Thankfully, with more traditional and classy styles on the forefront, this means that all different body types can enjoy feeling stylish and on the cutting edge of tomorrow's trends. As for the Crocs, though I can't say that I'd ever want to wear a pair, I think they'll be sticking around for at least a little while longer. Some even have a fleece lining! I suppose that's an entry for another day, though. Happy New Year, everyone! Here's to great fashion and great jeans for 2008!

How Designer Jeans are Made
Ever Wonder How Designer Jeans Are Made?
Ever wonder how your favorite designer jeans are made? Nylon TV, a division of Nylon Magazine, gets to the bottom of this question in this YouTube video segment. For the August Denim Issue, Dani Stahl visited the 7 For All Mankind factory and learned what goes into making the perfect pair of denim jeans. This video also illustrates all the steps it takes to make a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans. Many of the steps are done by hand which is one of the things that factors into the higher cost of premium denim jeans.

Design Your Own Jeans! at indi
indi, a custom jeans brand, is a new entrant to the premium jeans market with a radical new innovation -- each pair of jeans is custom designed and sewn specifically for each consumer. This exciting new brand offers both men's and women's jeans and enables its customers to design their own pair choosing from literally hundreds of possible style variations. Customers also answer a few simple body shape questions, and each design is then custom fit, creating a truly one-of-a-kind jean for each indi customer.
A pair of jeans -- the staple of most wardrobes is often the most challenging clothing item to find. Typically, consumers of all shapes and sizes brave racks of mass produced clothing that was actually designed for an ideal fit model. Simply look around and it's obvious that we unfortunately don't all resemble a fit model so not surprisingly it can be difficult to find clothing that both fits you and reflects your style. indi's approach to jeans is revolutionizing the way consumers shop for jeans. Their philosophy: you were not mass produced so why should your clothing be? indi allows you to wear something made just for you, and to top it off, they do this at a competitive price.
At indicustom.com consumers are asked to choose their own fabric, style options and finishing details and fill out a fit profile. This is all indi needs to create a unique pattern for each and every customer. Women's options include super low to high rises, multiple leg styles such as tapered, bootcut or cropped and over 30 different back pocket options. Men can make their jean a basic 5 pocket or add carpenter styling, and both men and women can select sanding and distressing treatments. Customized orders are then sent to a highly specialized manufacturing facility, where they are cut, sewn, tested for quality, and shipped direct to the customer's address.
indi launched its premium jeans (http://www.indicustom.com) line in December of 2007 with two styles for each women and men. indi's women's jeans (http://www.indicustom.com/navigation.do?method=DISPLAY_WOMENS_JEANS) include the SoMa for a jean that's slimmer through the hip and thigh or the Noe style that's more relaxed. Edie Jacquez, indi's head of Product Development, explained "indi allows our customers to customize the styles we offer to build their perfect jean. You could spend days shopping for a jean in a style, rise, leg and wash right for you or you can create yours in minutes at indicustom.com." In early 2008, indi will expand its selection, introducing a trouser jean for women and a low rise jean for men.
Nothing you wear expresses your personal style more than a pair of jeans. Now, you can design your one-of-a-kind custom jeans. Become an indi designer and create yours at www.indicustom.com.
About indiTM
indi is next generation apparel, enabling custom jeans designed by you and fit for you. At indicustom.com, consumers design garments to their style preferences and body shape. Each and every indi garment is truly one-of-a-kind. It's clothing as unique as you.

Seven For All Mankind Women's Fit Guide
Found this guide at national jean company:
7 FOR ALL MANKIND
7 for All Mankind by denim guru Jerome Dahan, are known for their buttery soft stretch, comfortably snug fit and celebrity following. The magic of 7 for All Mankind is the way they maximize the shape of the wearer.
The A Pocket has a low rise and fits the shape of the leg: narrow at the knee, flare bottom. The waistband is contoured, lower in the front than in the back. This protects against a peek-a-boo in the back and makes the jean look generally lower in the front. This stretch denim is very forgiving on athletic legs, and rounder bottoms.
The Bootcut has a low rise, sits low on the hips and has a snug fit through the leg, loosens just above the knee. This is the signature jean by Seven.
The Dojo is the lowest fitting jean from 7 for All Mankind. The fit is tight through the leg, until it breaks into wider trouser leg. The bottom has a wide hem for a very sharp and sophisticated look.
The Ginger Wide Leg is a lightweight denim style with the spirit and style of the 1970’s. The contoured waistband has a front rise of 9”, 13.5” in the back. A single crease runs down the front and back of the legs giving the legs a long and lean look.
The High Waisted Trouser is a sophisticated and fashion forward style. They fit slim through the hips and fit wide through the thighs and leg. This is our highest rise at 13.75” and higher in the back at 16.25”. The slant front pockets add to the trouser style and the besom back pockets give a clean and smooth appearance. This only embellishement is a crease down the front and back of the leg.
The Kate Straight Leg is a slim fitting jean with a slightly stretchy feel. The denim pant has five pocket styling and straight leg. The waistband is contoured for a flattering fit on the waist and hips, a lower rise in the front at 7.5” and higher in the back at 12.25”.
The Lucy Skinny Pant combines the aesthetic of a jean, rivets, pockets, button, zipper fly with the feel of a legging. Runs true to size. The thick knit fabric keeps you in and warm. Fantastic with boots.
The Roxanne is the essential silhouette for a sophisticated denim look. Roxanne has a tapered, slimmed-down leg, intended to scrunch at the ankle over a killer pair of heels. The back of the jean has a yoke that rounds and lifts the bottom. The contoured waistband flatters the waist and hips, giving coverage in the back at 13.5” and lower rise in the front at 7.5”.

Stepping on my Jeans
So, for most of my life it was cool to have frayed jeans. I would buy a pair, wear them for a bit, excited about the day the bottoms would begin to fray. Then there would be that perfect moment, when the jeans sat in a perfect state of "frayededness?". They would hang there for a bit and then get to the point of just gross, usually around the same time that holes would begin to appear in the knees, and I knew it was time to say goodbye.
That was all fine and good with my Gap, or JCrew Jeans. I'm not sure I'm down with it with a near $200 pair of jeans. The problem I have is my jeans fit perfect with my work shoes, but when I switch to my flatter "sneaker-shoes" on the weekend, I start to feel my jeans under my heels. My wife says that this is why women have sneaker jeans and shoe jeans, and I need to get a pair dedicated to sneakers. My question is, is she right? And if so, does that mean that I don't go for frayed bottoms anymore.
What's the protocol with a pair of seven for all mankind. Frayed or not. I'm afrayed :) I'm gonna be in for a dedicated pair. We will see.

Anyway, what do you think. Enjoy the article.

Simply Blue Brand Shifts to Celebrities
"Our philosophy is that cleavage belongs in the front and above the waist. Let's rid the world of indecent exposure," Matsui said, revealing a sardonic sense of humor. "We spend a lot of time and money on fit perfection."
Redmond designer jeans firm "Simply Blue" reveals a great wit while discussing its shift from shunning to embracing celebrity endorsements.
When it desired to shift its premium brand to a younger demographic for its Pine IV label, they reached out to an LA PR firm. Soon, both actress Jennifer Garner and Food Network personality Rachel Ray were spotted in the label.
Simply Blue can be found at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and about 1200 specialty retail stores nationwide.
The linked article details the shift to celebrity endorsements, and the history of the company.

Find Jeans that Fit
The article continues on to recommend certain jean's for certain shapes:
Pam Gundlach has a different problem. "I have long legs but I am short wasted," says Gundlach. "So I have to find jeans that are made in longer length and that are low wasted so that it doesn't come up too high," says Gundlach.
Vavilala says J & Company has jeans that fit this body type as well. J & Company jeans usually cost about $150 to $170.
The article concludes with Vavilala's "5 key points" to consider when purchasing jeans. She expounds on each in the article:
- The quality of the denim.
- The waist band.
- Check the jean length.
- Pay attention to the hem of the jeans.
- Pay attention to the pockets.

Seven For All Mankind Pocket Stitching Issue
During Thanksgiving I bought my husband a pair of Seven For All Mankind bootcut jeans. Today, I noticed hte pocket stitching coming out. I think he has worn them a total of 4 times. Does anyone else have any experience with this. They were purchased at Nordstrom in Chandler, AZ. Nordstrom has always been very good about returns and such, so I am not worried that this will be taken care of. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem with Seven's and pocket stitching.
